What should I do while waiting for the PLAB2 result? (Guidance to find a job in NHS)

 This is my personal experience.

Aim to help IMG to have a brief idea on what to do next, after the PLAB2 exam or while transitioning into the UK.

1. Planning for GMC registration

Documents needed

-Certificate of good standing

-Certificate of Completion of Internship/ House job

-Evidence for your English test: IELTS or Occupational English Test

-Identification (Passport)

- Activities for the last five years (your employment history, any clinical gap)

Tips: You shall have a personal file (electronic or paper types) to keep all your records, especially your employment history.

2. Start build-up for your NHS Job Profile and Apply for Job

You need to do some homework here.

Step 1: Register yourself https://www.jobs.nhs.uk/ and https://www.nhsjobs.com/ , then you will pay attention to the components that need to build your NHS job profile.

If you want to apply job for in Scotland: https://www.careers.nhs.scot/how-to-apply/application-process/https://apply.jobs.scot.nhs.uk/

HSCNI : https://jobs.hscni.net/?fbclid=IwAR3jQg9RU6H_fBEj8sjSonbxpkSBqD7myrI-jeeWHBwYIOprZhz9uiIh9-o

Step 2: Read up on how to build up an NHS job profile.

Watch YouTube.

I spent 3-5 days just writing up my NHS job profile. In the beginning, you will keep editing it.

            Tips for personal statement:
  • layout is important
  • spell check
  • less is more
  • think about headings and how to laid out
  • give/ write evidence of any competencies you are saying you have ( do marketing/ promote yourself/ sell yourself)

What are the position names

Once you have done your NHS job profile.

Step 3: Get someone to review your NHS job profile for you. Give you some feedback.
It could be someone with NHS experience or your friend.

You can find 1-3 people for this.

I advise avoiding lengthy personal specifications.

Some people offer the service with charges.

Step 4: Apply for a job

You can start applying for a job without waiting for your GMC registration (I did it after I passed my PLAB2 while waiting for GMC registration).

3. Build or update your CV

Most NHS jobs, will not ask for CVs.

But I notice few of the trusts (rare) did ask me to upload a CV.

I do advise having an up-to-date CV.

You can give your CV to the agents.

The pro and cons of having agents as your first job: https://m.facebook.com/groups/IMGs.in.the.UK/permalink/4530480816984924/?refid=18&__tn__=%2As-R

If you would like to give in touch with agents, you can email your CV and your contact number to my email. hhpersonalcoaching@gmail.com

Tips: Agents shouldn't charge you, they should charge on the trust. Read carefully the term and conditions. My best friend got the job from agents, so far she is happy with it. You can always inquire about your doubt with the agents.

4. Malaysian

a. Apply for Certificate of Good Standing from MMC
