My NHS Interview Experience

I got two interviews.

I accepted one of the offers and I stop applying for jobs.

Congratulations to receive the job interview.

An overview of NHS interview.

 Usually, it starts with

  • introducing yourself (tell about your cv),
  • then clinical and ethics questions,
  • last Questions, and Answers.

Usually, each interview took 15-20mins time onlyYou should be precise.

> Some interviews could email you beforehand and request you to prepare with a presentation/ teaching. Some interviews could be face to face.

*I received an invitation for an interview face to face. (February 2022, Covid restrictions is loosened now)

Tips

- Be alert on the time and be a safe doctor during the interview.

- Don't talk too much (too much over, like a shooting gun) in your CV - be precise and highlight your important achievement  <optional, they can read your CV, some said it sounds arrogant and unnecessary>, yet stay humble ( actually, it is just a warming up, the interviewer knew your CV as they usually read once before interviewing you).

- Be friendly and polite. Don't sound like you are afraid of them!

- If you don't know, say you will check the guideline. If you forget, say you will check the guideline. In the end, check with your senior.

What is an interview for?

- information verification

- as seeing each other before starting to work with you

- to get an understanding of the person

How to give a good first impression?

- Dress professionally

-  Mindful about verbal skills (tone, voice volume, silence/pauses) and non-verbal skills (eye contact, body language)

- Be prepared, and plan your journey (including knowing the job you applied for, know the organization that you are applying for)

- On-time

- Good attitude: Be positive, Be truthful

- Pace yourself: slow down if you are too fast

- Don't memorize exact answers

Questions time, how should I approach?

- Prepare a few questions that you want to ask

- Shows your interest and enthusiasm

- Make them positive

There are quite a few useful blogs/youtube/books that you can use

- eg: Omar guideline blog, Dr Raja Adnan Ahmed's youtube. (you can open all those link)

- Book:  Medical Interviews: A comprehensive guide to CT, ST & Registrar Interview Skills - Over 120 medical interview questions, techniques and NHS topics explained

You can ask previous candidates who did the interview (with the same trust and position) to have a basic idea of the questions commonly asked. link ( Tips: You can use the search bar first)
