Cases of IMG Doctor’s Fitness to Practice Impaired in NHS
This post aims to give some insight into how the fitness of practice can be affected.

Case 1
Dr A misleading and dishonest to Hospital B where he worked
as a locum consultant. Dr A did not disclose that he was being investigated by the regulator and gave the false impression that he was still working in Hospital C.
When Dr A was working in Hospital B, Dr A discharged patient D and patient D
died on the same day.
Dr A found to be failed to acquired information regarding
patient D, failed to communicate with nursing staff, failed to review oxygen saturation
of patient D, failed to admit patient D, failed to consult a senior colleague,
fail to record, and failed to adequately explain to patient D’s family.
Type of case: New -Misconduct
Outcome on facts: Fact relevant to impairment found proved
Outcome on impairment: Impaired
Summary: Erasure.
Case 2
Person B (? Ex-GF) excused Dr A (IMG) for having sex without consensus.
Type of case: New -Misconduct
Outcome on facts: Fact relevant to impairment found proved
Outcome on impairment: Impaired
Summary: Suspension, 12months.
Case 3
Dr A make a false insurance claim that her handbag had been
stolen, along with engagement and wedding rings. Dr A gets time to fully
remediate and gain insight into her dishonest behavior. Reflective log and
other evidence (insight, testimonials, keep medical knowledge and skills up to
date).
Type of case: Review- Conviction
Outcome on impairment: Not Impaired
Summary: Suspension revoked.
Case 4
Dr. A behaved inappropriately towards four colleagues and
was sexually motivated.
Type of case: New -Misconduct
Outcome on facts: Fact relevant to impairment found proved
Outcome on impairment: Impaired
Summary: Suspension, 3 months.
