Habits of Highly Effective People
7 Habits Of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey:
Three categories of habits:
A. Private Victory
1. Be Proactive
- reactive (receiving) vs proactive (take responsible) people
- focus on the circle of influence ( what can you control? what can't you control what can you influence)
- put on things that you can control (don't upset on those you cant control)
2. Begin with the end in mind
- What would you like to remember? (?Friend, family, community)
- what is your mission statement?
3. Put first things first
* avoid putting quadrant 4 into quadrant 1/2/3 or wasting time in quadrant 4.
B. Public Victory
4. Think win: win
5. Seek first to understand, then to be understood
- for 1: 1
- practice listening, be empathy
- 5 active listening skills
1. Be attentive
2. Ask open-ended questions
3. Ask follow-up questions
4. Summarise the information
5. Seek confirmation
6. Synergize
- the whole is better than sum of the parts
- observe how people do things -> later only express your way -> brainstorm
- diversity of perspectives
- different people's brains work in different ways, find your suit way ( Howard Gardner's multiple intelligence: interpersonal, intrapersonal, linguistic, musical, logical, naturalistic, existential, body-kinesthetic)
C. Renewal
7. Sharpen the saw
- why don't you take a break to sharpen a saw?
- we need to take care of physical, social/emotional, mental, and spiritual needs (divide your time into those, plan ahead)
