Costly PLAB Journey vs When I can get those money back?

This post aims to ease the tense of candidates as heavy financial burden in this journey.

In my opinion,  I will say it going to be 3-6 months' time, depending on

Expenses

  • country currency and travel distance
  • where you sit for your exam
  • how many attempts you did
  • types of accommodation and transportation
  • how much you invest in your preparation - study material,  questions bank, online mock, online course, and academy

Salary

  • How much salary per month do you have? It depends on your experience and your grade (Income- expenses = saving)
  • Locum salary

            * Expenses in a larger city could be more costly.
            * You can read Dr Oman blog about expenses in UK

I had shared about my expenses in PLAB2, you can read it  with this link

Now, let's discuss the joy part: how much you going to earn in near future.

Locum

Taken from Mail Online (2017). Available on https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-4410344/Locum-doctors-paid-3-600-single-NHS-shift.html. Accessed: 26/02/2022.

I met people who got £50/hour for doing locum shifts in A&E.

Don't forget your income is subject to tax which could be 20%-40% depending on your income range.  So, you will get around half of the money.

(Rought estimate: eg. 50 pounds/ hour, you work for an 8hours shift = 400, you will have around 200 per locum shift on hand)

I hope this eases your mind or helps you to plan your journey better.

Personally, I think we are going on this journey, not just for the money but also looking for other aspects in life. A better future.
